CMA Attends Professional Engineer Legislative Days

CMA President Peter Moore, P.E., LEED AP, F.ASCE; Chairman Dr. Ben Chen, P.E., BCEE; and Vice President Jose Acosta, P.E. were in Tallahassee for Professional Engineer Legislative Days. Jose, as a member of the Miami based team for FES Region 7, also met with Florida Lieutenant Governor Lopez Cantera.
Professional Engineer Legislative Days is the foremost legislative conference for Floridaﾒs engineering industry. It offers professional engineers the opportunity to promote and defend key issues at the Capitol. CMA Participates in Day of the Engineer Celebration

CMA Vice President Jose L. Acosta, P.E. attended a mass for several Cuban-American engineering associations including the Cuban American Association of Civil Engineers at La Ermita de La Caridad (Our Lady of Charity) in Miami. The mass was to retroactively celebrate El D�a Del Ingeniero (the Day of the Engineer) in Cuba (January 11).

CMA staff participated in ﾑTake Your Kids To Work Dayﾒ on February 2. Parker Nochomson (Todd) and Anabelle Tijerino (Carlos) were honored guests in the Fort Lauderdale office. This year marks the programﾒs 21st anniversary of which 37 million Americans participate on an annual basis.

Vice President Jose L. Acosta, P.E. and Director of Construction Services Marcus Austin, GC, LEED AP of Chen Moore and Associates attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the City of Marathon Utility Maintenance Facility-Construction Management project on February 1. CMA is the prime consultant for construction engineering and inspection services of this pre- manufactured engineered utility maintenance facility and public works compound.

Marcus Austin, GC, LEED AP and Leigh Barron celebrated their Chenniversaries at a joint celebratory breakfast on January 30. With 15 years of service Marcus serves as Director of Construction Services and has worked on a variety of projects throughout South Florida including leading the recently completed Marathon City Hall Construction Management project. Marcus is also a certified NPDES and OSHA Training instructor and teaches these courses throughout the State of Florida. Leigh is a Sr. Marketing Coordinator with 10 years of service to CMA. In her role, she is responsible for leading the firmﾒs marketing efforts which include proposal and award submittals, external and internal communications and the firmﾒs database system. Congratulations!
CMA Healthy Day ~ Kicking Off the New Year

CMA staff kicked off the New Year by celebrating ﾑHealthy Dayﾒ in January. Employees brought in their favorite healthy food dish for everyone to enjoy. In addition, designated pop-up instructors offered stress relief exercises! Employees also took the stairs for the day.

The ASCE 2017 Multi-Region Leadership Conference was held in Newark, New Jersey. Representing CMA and our Miami-Dade Branch were Miguel Lockward, EIT and Carlos Tijerino. The conference included the Workshop for Section and Branch Leaders (WSBL), the Eastern Region Younger Member Council (ERYMC) and the Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders (WSCL).
