CMA attended the FES Broward Chapter Induction Ceremony at the Riverside Hotel in Fort Lauderdale on October 17. Congratulations to our Project Engineers Vincent Locigno, P.E. who was sworn in as president and Charmaine Emanuels, P.E. who became chapter treasurer! The Keynote speaker was Coree Cuff Lonergan, the general manager and director of transportation for Broward County.
CMA Staff Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity Project
On Saturday, October 14th, CMA staff members Craig Wallander, Jazmin Cruz, Ruben Soto, Maritza Figueroa and her daughter Aryana volunteered at the Rick Case Habitat Community to assist Habitat for Humanity by painting the interior of a single-family home. The group was responsible for applying the first coat of paint to the entire house, including walls, ceiling, and closets. The future homeowner Evelyn Miller was also part of the group. Evelyn is expected to move in with her husband and son by early December. Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across the U.S. and approximately 70 countries by building strength, stability, and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing. UF ESSIE Career Fair

Tau Beta Pi Convention
CMA Engineer Alexander Harris and Senior Engineer David Cowan, Jr., P.E., ENV SP, LEED AP attended 2023 Tau Beta Pi Convention October 12-14, hosted by the Georgia Alpha Chapter at Georgia Tech and the Atlanta Alumni Chapter. David served as an official on the image and marketing committee and presented a professional development session on career paths. Alex also served on the advisor’s committee.
11th Annual Miami-Dade League of Cities Best Practices Conference
CMA Principal Planner Nilsa Zacarias, AICP; Principal Engineer Greg Mendez, P.E.; and Executive Vice President Jose L. Acosta, P.E., F.ASCE attended the 11th Annual Miami-Dade League of Cities Best Practices Conference. ASCE Jacksonville Branch Fundraiser
The ASCE Jacksonville Branch had their 3rd Annual TopGolf Fundraiser on October 5th and CMA Engineer Alexander Farfan was one of the main event planners. The event was a huge success. ASCE East Central Branch Annual Golf Tournament
On Friday, September 15th CMA staff members Madeline Batey, E.I., Rob Best, P.E., Ben Lehr, P.E. and Jason McClair, P.E. played in the ASCE East Central Branch Annual Golf Tournament at the Celebration Golf Club. The event is one of the Branch’s scholarship fundraising events, of which CMA was a Hole sponsor. For a “best ball” tournament, Jay and Ben could not get any closer!

CMA attended the Cuban American Association of Civil Engineers and the Association of Cuban American Engineers 62nd Annual Engineers Day Gala on October 7 at Jungle Island in Miami. The event celebrated the engineering and construction profession and recognized colleagues with various awards. Daniel Davila, P.E. Presented with Best WEFTEC Program Abstract Award
Congratulations to CMA Director of Water and Sewer and Principal Engineer Danny Davila, P.E. who recently received the Best WEFTEC Program Abstract Award at the WEFTEC Awards Conference! The event was held September 30-October 4 in Chicago. Danny received the award for the “Horizontal Directional Drilling of 7 miles of Large Diameter Forcemain through Downtown Fort Lauderdale” project. CMA Chief Executive Officer – President Peter Moore, P.E., F.ASCE, FACEC and Executive Vice President – Business Development Jose L. Acosta, P.E., F.ASCE were also in attendance.

International Coastal Cleanup
CMA participated in the 2023 International Coastal Cleanup on September 23. The Miami office volunteered at the Darwin Beach cleanup organized by MORAES. MORAES is an environmental research organization located in Miami, founded with the intent to inspire and retain local marine ecologists through research, publishing, volunteering and education outreach. The Fort Lauderdale office picked up trash at Hollywood North Beach Park. CMA teamed up with Cummins Cederberg and Brizaga to volunteer for this event. Cummins Cedeberg is a prominent engineering firm specialized in coastal and marine environment in South Florida. Brizaga is a consulting firm that works to plan for and address the impacts of rising seas, and changing environment to create practical solutions in the face of more frequent flooding. Collectively, CMA picked up over 70 pounds of trash along the shores of South Florida.
