What a time we had at the ASCE Miami Field Day at the Miami Zoo! On February 24th, our CMA staff members joined over 400 engineers from all over South Florida for a fun-filled day of games and fundraising. We were proud to be a Competition sponsor, supporting scholarships for future engineers. Triple threat of higher education in Miami! Miami-Dade College, Florida International University and University of Miami – where dreams become reality.

The Lakes Park Hurricane Ian Remembrance & Children’s Engineering Garden is officially open! Led by FELI graduates, including our very own Ben Lehr, P.E., this project aims to honor those affected by Hurricane Ian and inspire future engineers. CMA was proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of this innovative and meaningful space which raised over $110,000. FELI is an education program administered by the Florida Engineering Society (FES) and American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC Florida).

CMA Senior Environmental Scientist Named Vice President of the Florida Urban Forestry Council
CMA Senior Environmental Scientist Brian Voelker, M.S., SPWS, C.A., CLI, was recently named Vice President of the Florida Urban Forestry Council (FUFC). FUFC’s mission is to promote the value, enhancement, and sound management of urban forests through leadership, collaboration, guidance, and education. FUFC is an organization of organizations rooted in Florida’s urban forest industry. The management of urban, and peri-urban forests is complex and involves many professional disciplines. CMA Engineer Receives Distinguished Future Technology Leader Award
Congratulations to CMA Associate Engineer Madeline Batey who received the Distinguished Future Technology Leader Award at the Palm Beach County National Engineers Week Honors & Awards Event! The event was organized by the Engineer’s Council and hosted by the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County on February 13 at the Kravitz Center in West Palm Beach. With this award, the Engineers’ Council recognizes early career professionals who have achieved significant accomplishments in a particular area of engineering activity within the first five years of their career. Candidates may receive one award in this category during their career.
CMA Project Named Honor Winner at ACEC Awards Banquet
CMA’s Dames Point Bridge Electrical and Lighting project for the Florida Department of Transportation – District 2 was named an Honor Winner in the Energy Category by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Florida. ACEC Florida presented award winners with their Engineering Excellence Awards during the 2024 ACEC Florida Engineering Excellence Awards Banquet in Orlando on February 23rd. CMA was the lead consultant and Engineer of Record for the design of the project.
Engineers Week February 18-24
CMA staff members Jennifer Smith, P.E.; Derrick Smith, CFM, LEED AP; and Alex Farfan, E.I. attended the Northeast Florida Engineers Week (EWeek) awards banquet on February 23rd in Jacksonville. CMA was acknowledged as a gold sponsor. Participants enjoyed cocktail hour, banquet and casino games. This year’s Engineers Week theme – Welcome to the Future – was about celebrating today’s achievements and paving the way for a brighter and more diverse future in engineering.
FES Miami Engineers Day Gala and Award
Congratulations to CMA Executive Vice President Jose L. Acosta, P.E., F.ASCE who received the Engineer of the Year Award at the FES Miami Chapter 2024 Annual Gala and Awards Banquet! The Engineer of the Year Award is given to the one member of FES Miami each year that best exemplifies the ideal image of the Professional Engineer and has a well-rounded record of achievement in education, employment, and professional and public service activities. The event was held at the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay on February 24. Other CMA staff members were also in attendance.
