Acosta, P.E., F.ASCE attended the Florida League of Cities Annual Conference August 10-12 at the Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek. The FLC annual conference is an opportunity for municipal officials and senior staff to enhance leadership skills, learn from municipal experts, share ideas with peers, discuss strategies for Florida’s future and hear about the latest in products and services for municipal governments.
Jose L. Acosta, P.E., F.ASCE Finishes Term as President of the Miami Chapter of FES
On Tuesday, CMA Executive Vice President Jose L. Acosta, P.E., F.ASCE finished his term as President of the Miami Chapter of FES. CMAers Principal Engineer Shahin Hekmat, P.E., F.FES; Principal Engineer Greg Mendez, P.E.; and Principal Engineer Patrick Kaimrajh, P.E. attended at the Pullman Hotel in Miami. Jose congratulated the executive board, directors, committee chairs and membership on a successful and memorable year. He also thanked his caring and supportive team at CMA and his family, all of whom have been there for Jose throughout his journey.

CMA Senior Engineer David Cowan, Jr., P.E., ENV SP and Engineer Brandon Sullivan, E.I. recently participated in a Bed Delivery Day for the Sleep in Heavenly Peace program. The program is a group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling, and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need. ASCE Broward Branch Bowl-a-Thon
On Saturday August 5, ASCE Broward Branch hosted the annual Bowl-A-Thon at SpareZ in Davie. The CMA team won first place overall and CMA Senior Vice President Jason McClair, P.E. took home the third place highest overall scorer. Other CMAers Jessica Diaz, P.E., Charmaine Emanuels, P.E., Bryan Castro, and Ashley Espinoza won raffle prizes. It was a hugely successful event, and the Broward Branch exceeded the goal to raise $2,000 for student scholarships!
Christopher W. Taylor, P.E. Receives Best in Construction Award
Congratulations to CMA Senior Engineer Christopher W. Taylor, P.E. who received a Best in Construction Award by the Florida Transportation Builder’s Association (FTBA) in the Interstate Award category. Chris received the award at the FTBA Annual Convention Awards Breakfast on August 4 in Boca Raton for his collaboration on Project No. 44258115201, SR 93/I-75, from N. SR 47 to S. FES ACEC-FL Annual Conference
We are proud to announce that many of our CMA staff attended the 2023 FES ACEC-FL Annual Conference at the JW Marriott Marco Island July 26-29 and had much to celebrate! Our former CMA Director of Energy William Wilson, P.E., FACEC received the Lifetime Service Industry award. The Miami Chapter of FES was named Chapter of Excellence, led by its President Jose L. Acosta, P.E. (our Executive Vice President), F.ASCE and CMA Director of Transportation Ben Lehr, P.E., DBIA, LEED AP graduated from the FELI class. Our CMA Director of Quality Assurance Shahin Hekmat, P.E., F.FES was named National Director of ACEC, CMA Principal Engineer Mike Bell, P.E. was named Land Development Director of ACEC, and CMA Senior Engineer David Cowan, Jr., P.E., ENV SP, LEED AP was inducted into the FES Board of Directors as Vice President for Region V. Another big milestone achieved by this year’s FELI class is the first to cross the $100,000 in raising money for special projects across our state. Congratulations to Peter Moore, P.E., F.ASCE and Gregory Mendez, P.E. for representing CMA at the conference as well!
ASCE YMF International Women & Engineering Day Technical Tour & Lunch
CMA staff members Madeline Batey, E.I. and Robert Best, P.E. attended the ASCE YMF International Women & Engineering Day Technical Tour & Lunch. The event, held on June 23, included a tour of the new Brightline High-Speed Rail Vehicle Maintenance Facility, new Orlando Station and lunch. CMA was a sponsor.
