CMA Senior Engineer Yulet Miguel, P.E. attended the ‘Criminal Justice Day’ for Leadership Broward on April 20th. She attended the Broward County Jail, which was a very unique and impactful tour learning about the logistics and visiting the high-profile convicts. Then the group had lunch in the courthouse library and a panel discussion from The Honorable Judge Elijah Williams, Harold Pryor, State Attorney, 17th Judicial Circuit, Gordon Weekes, Public Defender, 17th Judicial Circuit. They ended the day with a virtual reality simulation at the Broward Police Academy.

On April 7, CMA attended the second annual Sporting Clays Shooting Tournament, benefiting the Sarasota County Gator Club Scholarship fund. Eighty-eight shooters participated in the event, held at the Knight’s Trail Park in Sarasota. The Sarasota County Gator Club will give out $10,000 in scholarships to local students attending the University of Florida, $3,000 more than last year! CMA served as the Swamp Event Sponsor for the second time.

On April 12, CMA Chairman of the Board Dr. Ben Chen, P.E., BCEE and Senior Engineer David Cowan, Jr., P.E., ENV SP attended the FAU Concrete Expo and Fair at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. CMA staff members Ben Lehr, P.E., DBIA, LEED AP, Yulet Miguel, P.E. and Brad Wilson, P.E. attended the FDOT Project Management Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Orlando on April 10^th and 11^th.

CMA’s Community Service Committee hosted a Kayak Intracoastal Cleanup on Saturday, April 8 at Waterway Adventures in Hollywood. Six bags of trash were collected by our team! Participants for the 90-minute event were: Safiya Brea P.E., LEED AP, Daniel Davila P.E., Jessica Diaz, P.E., Charmaine Emmanuels, P.E., Marcelo Grandi E.I., Ruben Soto, Craig Wallander, E.I., and Stephanie Williams.

CMA staff members Stefan Bortak, PLA, ASIC, CID, Eric Harrison, PLA and Amber Mathis, PLA attended the LA Bash Conference March 29-31 at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. The student-led conference of ASLA rotates around the country annually and includes keynote speakers and workshops. https://www.labash.org/

CMA Director of Planning Nilsa Zacarias, AICP attended the American Planning Conference (APA) conference in Philadelphia from April 1-4. The conference program was focused on content developed through peer discussion and research within the planning profession. Several sessions were offered including Public Participation “Tools for Tricky Twists in Community Engagement” in which Nilsa is pictured.  National Planning Conference

Acosta, P.E., F.ASCE, David Cowan, Jr., P.E., ENV SP, Shahin Hekmat, P.E., F.FES, Patrick Kaimrajh, P.E., Ben Lehr, P.E., DBIA, LEED AP, Peter Moore, P.E., F.ASCE, FACEC, Laura Vogel, Ph.D, P.E., ENV SP and Brent Whitfield, P.E., ENV SP attended the FES/ACEC Professional Engineer Legislative Days in Tallahassee.  The event was held March 20-22 where they met most of the legislators and/or staff that represent Southeast Florida. Peter Moore also testified to the Appropriations Committee for Education on behalf of FES/ACEC-FL.
