CMA Senior Engineer Stephanie Long, PhD, P.E. presented at the Greater Everglades Ecosystem Restoration (GEER) Conference April 17-20 at the Marriott Coral Springs. The presentation included the Flood Protection Level of Service (FPLOS) study for a 200 square mile area in Miami-Dade County on behalf of the SFWMD.  Other CMA staff who worked on the project and were present included Laura Vogel, PhD, P.E., ENV SP, Justin Tagle, P.E., LEED AP and Brent Whitfield, P.E., ENV SP. On Monday 4/24, CMA attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Improvements project for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta branch in Doral, FL. CMA provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for a new building on the east side of the property, fire line services, an enlarged concrete maintenance yard/area, new vehicular movements areas, new landscaping, and irrigation and adjustments to associated infrastructure to accommodate the new building.

On Friday, April 14th, CMA staff members Madeline Batey, E.I. and Rob Best, P.E. attended the ASCE East Central Branch’s Younger Member Forum (YMF) Central Florida Field Trip, which was a tour of the Brightline’s Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) in Orlando. As the current East Central YMF President, Maddie helped plan the event.

CMA staff members Shahin Hekmat, P.E. and Patrick Kaimrajh, P.E. attended the University of Miami STEM Career Fair on April 11. Students met with recruiters who were there to review career opportunities.

CMA Senior Engineer Yulet Miguel, P.E. attended the ‘Criminal Justice Day’ for Leadership Broward on April 20th. She attended the Broward County Jail, which was a very unique and impactful tour learning about the logistics and visiting the high-profile convicts. Then the group had lunch in the courthouse library and a panel discussion from The Honorable Judge Elijah Williams, Harold Pryor, State Attorney, 17th Judicial Circuit, Gordon Weekes, Public Defender, 17th Judicial Circuit. They ended the day with a virtual reality simulation at the Broward Police Academy.

On April 7, CMA attended the second annual Sporting Clays Shooting Tournament, benefiting the Sarasota County Gator Club Scholarship fund. Eighty-eight shooters participated in the event, held at the Knight’s Trail Park in Sarasota. The Sarasota County Gator Club will give out $10,000 in scholarships to local students attending the University of Florida, $3,000 more than last year! CMA served as the Swamp Event Sponsor for the second time.

On April 12, CMA Chairman of the Board Dr. Ben Chen, P.E., BCEE and Senior Engineer David Cowan, Jr., P.E., ENV SP attended the FAU Concrete Expo and Fair at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
