CMA Principal Engineer- Miami Office Leader Gregory Mendez, P.E. recently completed his Team’s Leadership Miami® (LM) class community project. LM offers participants the opportunity to share an intensive learning experience that focuses on community issues and leadership skills through a planned process of lectures, seminars, small group discussions, and leadership curriculum developed in partnership with local universities. Greg was integral in the fundraising for and renovation of a shared play space for His House Foster Care facility in Miami-Gardens. The renovations included a new play set, new asphalt for the bicycle loop, a new outdoor patio area with new picnic tables and bistro lighting, a new sandbox, a new basketball court, a 14’ outdoor movie screen and projector, play equipment, and much more. This new play area will provide hundreds of neglected, abandoned, and abused children an opportunity to recreate and experience happiness, some for the first time in their young lives. CMA is proud to have ranked 56th in the Zweig Group 2022 Hot Firm list. CMA was ranked 83rd in 2021. On May 27, CMA staff Jose L. Acosta, P.E., F.ASCE, Patrick Kaimrajh, P.E., Nick Karpathy, P.E. and Gregory Mendez, P.E., participated in the Annual Student Development and Scholarship Golf Tournament at Crandon Golf in Key Biscayne. In addition, CMA staff Shahin Hekmat, P.E. and Laura Vogel, Ph.D, P.E., ENV SP and Matt Trussoni, Ph.D, P.E. from the University of Miami presented for the FELI fundraiser at the event. The event benefits local schools, colleges and universities including providing a scholarship for the Miami Chapter of the Florida Engineering Society.

The CMA North Florida Family Picnic was held on Saturday, May 21 at Anastasia State Park in St. Augustine with a ‘nautical’ theme. Approximately 35 people enjoyed the day with a BBQ lunch and ice cream by Ben & Jerry’s. Chen Moore and Associates placed 31st in the Multi-Discipline category in the Zweig White Best Firms to Work For awards for the Architecture/Engineering/Construction industry. CMA participated in the 29th Annual Island City Canoe Race, which consists of a 6-mile relay race around the City of Wilton Manors on Saturday, May 21. Our team placed 9^th overall and 2^nd in the co-ed division!
