CMA staff participated in the ASCE Tri-County Workshop as a gold sponsor at the Long Key Natural Area & Nature Center in Davie. The workshop included presentations by industry leaders from the public and private sectors involved in South Florida’s infrastructure. It also provided an open forum for professionals, elected officials and the general public to discuss concerns in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Topics included stormwater, transit/transportation and water/wastewater.  Proceeds will be shared equally by the Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Branches to fund student scholarships.  A special thank you to our Sr. Engineer and President of the ASCE Broward Branch Jennifer Smith, P.E., who helped organize the event and was on the planning committee.

The team served dinner to those living in the Broward Partnership Shelter and also prepared sandwiches.

The Broward Partnership provides over 100,000 meals a year. Every day, program participants are served breakfast, lunch and dinner to 230 men, women and children experiencing homelessness on their campus. For more information, please visit: http://bphi.org/breaking-bread-breaking-barriers/

CMA teamed with Johnson-Davis Construction to participate in a fundraiser event called CANSTRUCTION, with proceeds going to the Palm Beach County Food Bank. This year’s event was held in Palm Beach Gardens, FL at The Gardens Mall from May 6-19. Our team built their sculpture at the mall on May 5 from 6pm-12am.  At the end of the two-week exhibition, each one of the sculptures was “decanstructed” and the food donated to the Palm Beach County Food Bank. In 2017, over 32,000 pounds of food was collected from these sculptures and distributed to hungry individuals and families in our community. Chen Moore team members Joel Brownsey (co-captain), Teresa Lewis (co-captain), Jennifer Smith, Dan Dombrowski, Derrick Smith, Patrick Kaimrajh, Carlos Tijerino, Natalie Mecklenburg, Jason McClair and Charmaine Emanuels  participated in the 28th Annual Island City Canoe Race in Wilton Manors on May 18. Teams competed in a 7-mile relay race around the Island City with exchange points throughout the Middle River. The race started at Colohatchee Boat Ramp and finished at Richardson Historic Park where participants were greeted with lunch and a trophy ceremony. CMA President and CEO Peter Moore, P.E., F.ASCE, ENV SP, LEED AP spoke on a panel at the Southeast Florida Utility Council (SEFLUC) meeting on Monday in Boca Raton. The panel spoke on behalf of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida. They discussed perspectives from consultants, service providers and client/service buyers on “Contracts – Springing Forward: Everyone in the Risk Pool.”

Happy Mother’s Day From CMA!

CMA staff celebrated our annual picnic on Saturday, May 4 at Spanish River Park in Boca Raton.  In honor of Star Wars Day, our theme was ‘May The Fourth Be With You.’ Festivities included a BBQ lunch, volleyball and a bounce house for children. Congratulations to Eric Harrison, RLA who won the t-shirt design contest! Everyone received a t-shirt. Approximately 75 people enjoyed the day including employees, friends and families. Special thanks to the social activities committee for planning the event!

Happy Star Wars Day From CMA!

Congratulations to our Engineering Intern Charmaine Emanuels who was presented with the Outstanding Graduate Award in Civil Engineering during the FIU graduation ceremony May 1. The award recognizes academic achievement and exemplary service to the department, FIU and the community.  Charmaine graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the FIU College of Engineering and Computing.
