CMA participated in the International Coastal Cleanup at El Pardo Park in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea on Saturday September 21st and collected 33 pounds of trash! This was our second year participating! Our volunteers were David Castro, P.E., Jessica Diaz, E.I., Charmaine Emanuels, E.I., Megan Schmidt, Derrick Smith, CFM, LEED AP, Jennifer Smith, P.E., Ruben Soto and Johanna Zona. The International Coastal Cleanup began more than 30 years ago, when communities rallied together with the common goal of collecting and documenting the trash littering their coastline. Volunteers from states and territories throughout the U.S. and more than 100 countries come together each year and participate in a Cleanup event near them. CMA staff Mike Albert, P.E., Suzanne Dombrowski, P.E., ENV SP, Paula Fonseca, P.E. and Karen Rachles attended the 13th Annual Palm Beach Partners Business MatchMaker Conference and Expo as a silver sponsor on September 20. The conference was held at the Kravis Center for Performing Arts in West Palm Beach and included workshops exposing business owners on how to build connections and contracting opportunities with government agencies, and how to build credit and obtain small business loans. CMA attended the Broward Branch ASCE 50th Year Anniversary, Installation and Awards Banquet Thursday, Sept 12th. CMA was a platinum sponsor for the event, held at the Hillsboro Club in Hillsboro Beach.  All Broward Branch Past Presidents were acknowledged, including Jose Acosta, P.E., F.ASCE; Peter Moore, P.E., F.ASCE, ENV SP, LEED AP; and Jennifer Smith, P.E. The current board was also recognized, including Jennifer Smith, P.E. as President and Teresa Lewis, E.I. as Treasurer. Chairpersons were acknowledged as well including Jessica Diaz (Bowl-a-thon); Natalie Mecklenburg (Membership Chair and Scholarship Chair), Ruben Soto (Community Outreach Chair), Teresa Lewis, E.I. (Social Media). Dan Davila, P.E. won project of the year for the Ft. Lauderdale Emergency Replacement of 30”FM. Today, CMA remembers those lost and affected by the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.  

CMA, teamed with Holtz Consulting Engineers, participated in the Inaugural Seacoast Classic Softball Tournament on September 7.  CMA won two out of the three games.  Players from CMA included Brent Whitfield, P.E., ENV SP, Cris Betancourt, RLA, Jennifer Cook, Madeley Arriola Guerrero, EI, Marvin Moore, Mike Wood, Jennifer Smith, P.E., Derrick Smith, CFM, LEED AP, Joel Brownsey, P.E. and Suzanne Dombrowski, P.E., ENV SP. Other teams that participated were Seacoast Utility Authority, City of Palm Beach Gardens, Palm Beach Gardens Police Department, City of West Palm Beach Utilities, Martin County Utilities, South Florida Lawmen and Globaltec.  All proceeds went to Water for People. CMA offices were connected via video conference to join the Fort Lauderdale office in celebrating President Peter Moore’s 20th CMAnniversary on August 30. Gifts included a gator jersey with his name and monogrammed cufflinks from Tiffany. Congratulations!

CMA Associate Engineers Sathvika Ramaji, E.I. and Nicholas Karpathy, E.I., ENV SP attended the ASCE Younger Members Leadership Symposium (YMLS) in Reston, VA this past weekend. The conference started with a tour of the Capitol and walking around the monuments in Washington, DC. The rest of the weekend included sessions on improving communication, management, networking and presentation skills. Aside from the sessions, time was also spent conversing with ASCE President-Elect Kancheepuram “Guna” N. Gunalan and networking with other young professionals from around the country.
