CMA Participated in ASCE Southeast Student Conference

CMA Participated in ASCE Southeast Student Conference

CMA President Peter Moore, P.E., F.ASCE, LEED AP and Vice President Jose Acosta, P.E. participated again this year in the Concrete Canoe competition as part of the ASCE Southeast Student Conference. Peter and Jose served as judges and also attended the conference held at the University of Alabama on March 12. Approximately 800 students from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee competed in the three-day event held at Lake Lurleen. The winner of the canoe race was the University of Florida. In addition, Peter Moore was interviewed by a local television station describing the process of the canoe designs. Cuba Infrastructure Scholarship Challenge

CMA Vice President Jose Acosta, P.E. participated in the Cuba Infrastructure Scholarship Challenge on Saturday February 27. The event is an annual student competition where team projects vie for a total of $12,000 in cash prizes plus non-tangible incentives like mentoring and networking. The event was hosted by both the Cuban-American Association of Civil Engineers (CAACE) and the Association of Cuban-American Engineers (ACAE). UF Campus Greenway Project Media Mention

CMA Project Engineer Jason Haeseler, P.E., was recently cited by WUFT Media regarding the University of Florida Campus Greenway project in Gainesville.

モThe trail is going to go all around Gainesville to give everyone an alternative route to school and work,ヤ said Haeseler.

The $2 million project was funded by FDOT and constructed in two phases. CMA serves as a subconsultant to HNTB who is the prime CEI consultant. The project includes permeable asphalt trail construction, lighting, a timber boardwalk, and a 146 feet long steel pedestrian bridge. The project is scheduled to be completed in March.

All Aboard Florida Fort Lauderdale Station Project Update

The All Aboard Florida Fort Lauderdale Station project is progressing! NW 2nd Avenue from 2nd Street to 4th Street is finalized and open to vehicular traffic. This project involves the design, permitting, and construction administration services. In addition, CMA is providing utility coordination services, site plan coordination, and the design of paving, grading, and drainage, water and sewer mains and services, and pavement markings and signage. The project is located in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, between W. Broward Blvd., NW 4th Street, the Florida East Coast Railroad and NW 4th Avenue. It is one Inline Station for the overall All Aboard Florida Rail Project, which proposes passenger rail service from Miami to Orlando, anticipated to open this year.

CMA Participated in FES’ Broward Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition

FES’ Broward Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition was held January 30 at Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale. CMA staff volunteered for the event: Peter Moore, P.E., LEED AP, F.ASCE served as the co-emcee; and Kathy Horrigan, Joel Brownsey, E.I., Safiya Brea, P.E., LEED AP and Dr. Ben Chen, P.E., BCEE assisted with scoring and competition control. The MATHCOUNTS Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that strives to engage middle school students of all ability and interest levels in fun, challenging math programs, in order to expand their academic and professional opportunities.
